Men’s Soccer Advance To CACC Semifinals With 3-1 Win Over Caldwell

When and Where: October 30th - Men's Soccer CACC Tournament - Waterbury, CT - LaMoy Field

Results: Post 3 - 1 Caldwell

Records: Post: 10-7-1 (8-3-1) - Caldwell: 6-10-2 (6-5-2)

The Eagles wasted no time in getting on the board in their first round matchup . Alvaro Sanchez scored his 10th goal of season less than six minutes into the game on an assist from Mohammad Awadallah

The starting back line of Matteo Moro, Andrea Baleotto, Andre Riello, Mohammad Awadallah and Eden Gendler played a sharp first half, conceding only three shots to Caldwell. When the halftime horn sounded, the score remained 1-0 Post.

Caldwell would strike first in the second half when Sander Golmen connected off a pass from Kevin Avila.

Caldwell's game-tying goal ramped up the intensity and Ted Haley's squad responded with quality play leading to quick scoring chances.

Less than ten minutes after the Caldwell goal, Samuel Urban drew a foul at the top of the box. It was a perfect spot for Sergio Diaz and the eagle's to convert a go-ahead goal, but Diaz's free kick deflected off Caldwell and out of play for a corner. Off of the corner, Sergio Sanchez found Andrea Baleotto, who collected the ball in the middle of the box and rocketed it past the keeper to give Post the lead, 2-1.

Defense would remain strong going in the late portion of the second half. Post did a great job controlling possession and limiting Caldwell's chances at net.

The Eagle's eventually broke loose in the final minutes to score their third goal. Sergio Diaz gained possession while on the run towards the box and with space. From there, he laid off a pass to Mohammad Awadallah who smashed a shot past the keeper.

Play would get chippy towards the end. Two Caldwell players were sent off due to red cards and seven total yellow cards were handed up (four for Caldwell, three for Post).

Post's 17 shots (12 on goal) bested Caldwell's 11 (7 on goal). Corner kicks were even at four per side.

Freshmen GK Fredrik Pedersen played well in net, collecting six saves on seven shots sent his way.
