Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's volleyball team had its most dominant performance of the season Wednesday night, defeating Dominican, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-9) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at the Drubner Center.
The win puts the Eagles at 9-11 overall and 6-3 in the CACC, which puts them in first place in the North Division. Dominican is 2-16 overall and 2-8 in the CACC.
Leading the way for the Eagles was freshman
Rylie Arms (Gilbert, Arizona) and seniors
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.) and
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.). Arms finished with 12 kills on the day, Hunziker had ten and Root had 34 assists.
With the Eagles up 11-8, a kill from Hunziker sparked a 14-4 run to end the set, including seven straight points to end any change the Chargers had at coming back. Senior
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had two aces during the seven straight points and Arms and Hunziker each had two kills.
On three separate occassions in set two, the Eagles scored five straight points to put it out of reach. Hunziker had four kills during the set. Junior
Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah) had three. Root had assists for each of the 13 kills by the Eagles in the set.
In a third set rout, the two teams played a tight first 11 points, with the Eagles leading 6-5, but a kill from
Shannon Veale and two straight aces by Root sparked a 19-4 run to win the match. Five different Eagles had kills during the set.
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road match at Jefferson at noon on September 6.
