Rylie Arms (Gilbert, Ariz.) had 13 kills and senior
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) had 32 assists, but the Post University women's volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 25-10, 17-25, 15-5) match to Jefferson on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt.
The Eagles move to 9-12 overall and 6-4 in the CACC. Jefferson is now a 15-7 overall and 10-1 in the conference.
Post took set one behind five kills by senior
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif) and four from Arms. Root had the assist on all nine of the kills from Hunziker and Arms. The Eagles twice ran off 5-0 runs in the set. The first when they were down 12-10. A kill by junior
Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) and two from Hunziker gave the Eagles a 15-12 lead. After the Rams rallied to take a brief 17-16 lead, the Eagles ran off another five straight points to take the lead for good, capped by a kill from Hunziker.
After dropping the next two sets to the Rams, the Eagles rallied for a convincing set four win, jumping out to a 14-5 lead early and never looking back. Hunziker and Arms had three kills apiece.
However, in set five, after a kill by Root cut the Rams lead to 7-4, Jefferson rattled off the next seven points to put the match out of reach.
Sophomore
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) had six blocks for the Eagles to lead all players. Junior
Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah) had four of her own.
Abigail Kress of Jefferson led all players in kills with 19. Alexandra Harrington had 49 assists for the Rams.
Up next for the Eagles is a CACCÂ road game at Concordia on October 9 at 6 p.m.
