Lugo Scores Twice but Men’s Hockey Drops to Franklin Pierce 7-4

Post plays home-and-home with Southern New Hampshire this weekend

WINCHENDON, Mass.  – The Post University men's ice hockey team fell short at Franklin Pierce 7-4 on Tuesday night at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass. Freshman Evan Lugo (Sandy Hook, Conn.) scored twice in the loss.

Post got the scoring started as Lugo put back a rebound off a shot by sophomore Tyler Hackett (Branford, Conn.) on power-play 4:06 into the game. Franklin Pierce added its own power-play goal and another score to pull in front 2-1. Freshman Costa Pizanis (Baltimore, Md.) tied the game 2-2 later in the period on his first-career goal. The Ravens were able to pull ahead again with a late goal to make the score 3-2 after one.

The Ravens scored three times in the second period to grab control of the game.

"We need to be good in all areas every period to win games. Our lack of consistency in the second period really hurt us tonight," said head coach Pete Whitney.

The Eagles wouldn't go away easily though as freshman Anthony Giacomin (Drexel Hill, Pa.) blasted a one-timer for a goal early in the third. Lugo trimmed the deficit to 6-4 on his second of the game as he forced a turnover and snapped it past the goaltender from the right circle with 6:30 to play. Post was unable to draw any closer as the Ravens added an insurance goal in the final minutes.

Freshman goaltender Nick Levesque (Manassas, Va.) started in goal and made 18 saves over the first two periods. Sophomore Devin Day (Fontana, Calif.) came in for the third and stopped 10 shots.

Post visits Southern New Hampshire on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. before returning home against the Penman on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
