Okros Putback Lifts Post Over Caldwell 70-69

Eagles grab victory in first game of 2018

CALDWELL, N.J. – Junior Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) putback a missed layup with 0.2 seconds remaining to lift the Post University men's basketball team over Caldwell 70-69 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road game on Wednesday night. The victory snaps a four-game losing streak for the Eagles.

Ruud Lutterman put the Cougars in front 69-68 with a dunk with just 12 seconds remaining. Following the basket Caldwell called a timeout. Senior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) drove in and missed a layup as the clocked ticked down, but Okros was there to put home the winner for the Eagles.

The Eagles used a 13-3 run in second half to take a 67-62 lead with 1:51 to go. Freshmen Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass.) and Jaylen Washington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) combined for three from distance, two from Washington, to spark the run.

Zay Johnson scored a jumper and three-pointer to cut the deficit to one point before the go-ahead basket by Lutterman. Neither team led by more than seven points on the night and five in the second half as the game featured nine ties and 14 lead changes.

Post fell behind 9-2 out of the gate but battled back to tie the game and eventually take a 24-18 lead with 6:24 left in the first after a three by sophomore Savion Boissard (Walden, N.Y.). The teams traded leads until a three by Vaughn Covington gave Caldwell a 32-30 advantage at halftime.

The teams continued to go back and forth to start the second and the Cougars led by five before the run by Post.

Desrosiers led Post with 25 points and five rebounds. Boyd was 7-of-9 from behind the arc, finishing with 23 points. Senior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) pulled down a team-high eight boards. The Eagles tied a season-high with 11 made three-pointers.

Post looks to keep the momentum going on Saturday as it visits Felician. Tip-off in Rutherford, N.J. is set for 3 p.m.
