Strong Second Half Leads Post Over Jefferson 81-65

Eagles shoot at 64 percent clip in second for second consecutive win

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team erased a 10 points halftime deficit on its way to an 81-65 victory over Jefferson on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center. The Eagles have now won two straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games to improve to 5-11 and 4-4 in conference play.
 
Post found itself down by as many as 12 points in the first half and a layup by freshman Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass.) as time expired in the first cut the Jefferson lead to 37-27 at halftime.
 
Boyd and sophomore Savion Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) combined for 12 points as part of a 16-6 run to start the second half by the Eagles that tied the score 43-43 with 15:16 to play.
 
The teams traded baskets until and the score was knotted 49-49 midway through the half. Post caught fire from there hitting six of its next seven shots, including three from distance to jump in front 64-52 with 6:57 remaining.
 
The Rams would get as close as nine points with just over three minutes left, but Post quickly answered with a three pointer by senior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) on the other end and the result was never in doubt from there.
 
Boyd scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half and led four Eagles in double figures. Boissard and junior Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) each poured in 14 points. Lockwood scored all 10 of his points in the second half.
 
Post held a 40-33 advantage on the glass led by Boyd and Boissard with eight rebounds each. The Eagles have now outscored opponents 99-53 in the second half over their last two games.
 
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday night on the road at CACC North Division leading Bloomfield. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
