WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Post University women's tennis team defeated New Haven 7-2 on the road in its season-opening match on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 1-0 heading into their first home match on Monday.
Post grabbed points in two of the three doubles matches. The duo of juniors
Brianna Miah (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and
Madison Young (Wellington, New Zealand) defeated Lilia Rodriguez and Ashley Varrone 8-5 at No. 1. Juniors
Jessica Bergen (Bethel, Conn.) and
Sarah Namazi (Waterbury, Conn.) also grabbed an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Nicole Calabrese and Caitlyn Burridge.
In singles action, freshman
Annika Janson (Seeon, Germany) defeated Rodriguez 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2. Junior
Juliana Seabra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3. Miah defeated Varrone 6-1, 6-0. Bergen swept Lauryn Burridge 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. At No. 6 singles, Namazi earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Post returns to action on Monday afternoon at home against Franklin Pierce at Edgewood Bath & Tennis. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
