WILMINGTON, Del. – A goal by Goldey-Beacom just over a minute into overtime sunk the Post University men's soccer team 1-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road game on Saturday afternoon.
"I am proud of the way the guys fought through some adversity today. Although we didn't get the result we wanted, there is a lot of good to take away from this match," said head coach
Ted Haley.
The Eagles were playing with 10 players after a red card in a 15
th minute, but defensively were able to hold the Lightning off the board in the first half as they were outshot 12-2. Freshman
Sergio Diaz (Madrid, Spain) had a shot on goal in the 39
th minute for the Eagles best opportunity in the first half.
Another red card early in the second left Post with just nine players, but the defense stoop up once again to keep the game scoreless through regulation. In the 92
nd minute a cross by Artur Zvinchuk was headed in off the crossbar by Nicholas Ladeira to give Goldey-Beacom the victory.
Sergio finished with three of the Eagles' four shots on the afternoon. Junior
Andre Riello (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also had a shot. Senior
Giovanni Riello (Sao Paulo, Brazil) made eight saves in goal.
Post is back in action at home on Saturday for a Homecoming Weekend matchup against Holy Family. Kickoff at LaMoy Field is set for 3 p.m.
