Eagles’ Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Le Moyne

Hunziker and Seger record double-doubles

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team was defeated by Le Moyne 3-2 in a five-set thriller at the Drubner Center on Friday night. Juniors Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.) and Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each recorded double-doubles in the loss.
 
Le Moyne stormed out to an 8-4 lead in the opening set. The Eagles answered back with an 11-1 run to take control of the set. Seger had three of her set-high four kills during the stretch as Post led 15-9. Back-to-back blocks by sophomore Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah) gave the Eagles a 25-15 victory.
 
Post fell behind 8-2 in the second, but once again came back and were able to take its first lead a 19-18 to force a Dolphins' timeout. With the score tied at 20-20, Hunziker landed three straight kills. The Eagles had set point up 24-22, but Le Moyne scored the final four points to tie the match.
 
The third set was the closest of the night with neither team leading by more than two early one. Post used a 5-1 spurt to jump ahead 16-11 and force a timeout. Le Moyne battled back to tie the set 18-18. The Eagles took control from there, ending the set on a 7-2 run. A block by freshman Kyla Knight (Seabrook, Texas) and Nelson gave Post the 25-20 win.
 
Le Moyne rolled out to a 14-8 lead in the fourth set and later extended it to 19-10. The Eagles closed the gap to 19-15, but were unable to get any closer as they fell 25-17.
 
Post started the fifth set on a roll and led 9-8 after a kill by Knight. Le Moyne answered with a 7-1 run to close out the match.
 
Hunzkier led the Eagles with 15 kills to go with 12 digs. Seger added 12 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks. Knight had 10 kills, three blocks, and an ace. Senior Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) posted a season-high with 21 digs. Junior Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) put up 43 assists and 12 digs.
 
The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they visit Georgian Court tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
