WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) of the Post University volleyball team recorded her 3,000
th-career assist on Wednesday night as the Eagles defeated Bloomfield 3-1 at the Drubner Center. Root, who had 46 assists on the night, is just the third player is school history to reach the milestone.
After falling behind 5-2 in the first set, Post responded with seven straight points and never trailed again. A kill by junior
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) gave Post its largest lead of the set at 22-16. She also smashed home the winning kill as the Eagles took the first 25-20.
Bloomfield rolled in the second set and found itself up 20-9. The Eagles slowly began chip away at the deficit and closed the gap to 24-20, but Post served out of order and fell 25-20.
Post fell behind 3-1 in the third set, but used a 15-1 run to take control as the Eagles won 25-15. Freshman
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) had a team-best five kills in the set.
The Eagles were behind in the fourth set as well 13-6. Five consecutive points, including two by sophomore
Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) helped Post take its first lead of the set at 18-17. The teams traded points until the score was tied 20-20. Seger scored four of the final five to give the Eagles 25-22 win.
Seger finished the match with a career high 17 kills to go with 15 digs. Junior Madison Hunzkier (Sacramento, Calif.) added 12 kills and 18 digs. Levatino had 11 kills and three blocks. Root added 16 digs and an ace.
The Eagles return to action on Friday night in a non-conference match against LeMoyne. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
