Waterbury, Conn. – Freshman Fenna Maarse (Hilversum, Netherlands) scored twice, as the Post women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Chestnut Hill 5-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
Maarse opened up the scoring in the eighth minute, firing a 25 yard shot on a free kick past Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Leah Peshkin. In the 27th minute, the Eagles again buried a shot from deep as senior Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) took a shot from 30 yards out that went over the outstretched arms of Peshkin. The Eagles would take a 2-0 lead going into the half after outshooting the Griffins 17-1 in the first 45 minutes.
It didn't take long for the Eagles to strike early in the second half as sophomore Hope Wilson (Mahopac, N.Y.) – coming off her hat trick against Concordia on Wednesday – put home a goal on a rebound in the 47th minute for her fifth goal of the season. Maarse added her second goal in the 60th minute, her third of the season to make it a 4-0 game.
The final goal for the Eagles (3-5, 3-1 CACC) from sophomore Bryanna D'Arcangelo (Bridgeport, Conn.) put an exclamation point on the win, as she dribbled around two defenders and took a shot from 18 yards out that hit the left post and in for the 5-0 lead in the 72nd minute.
The Griffins (1-6, 1-3 CACC) would add a goal in the 85th minute from Julianna Casasanto.
Post dominated offensively all game, outshooting Chestnut Hill 29-3 on the day. The Eagles also had six corner kicks to Chestnut Hill's one.
