Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team came on strong late, but dropped a 3-2 game to No. 9 LIU Post in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
With the Eagles down 3-1, senior
Nicholas Strecker (Uncasville, Conn.) took a pass off a free kick from sophomore
Sergio Diaz (Madrid, Spain) to make it a one goal game in the 89
th minute. A frantic final push to tie the game in the final minute fell just short.
Post got on the board in the 34
th minute as senior
Kenu Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) took a beautiful lead pass from freshman
Adrian Lekaj (Sherman, Conn.) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived as Lukas Ostermann of LIU Post took a pass from Johan Mauritzson to tie the game in the 35
th minute. The Pioneers would add one more goal with six seconds remaining in the first half to take a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
After a goal from Harry Pearse of LIU Post made it a 3-1 game in the 65
th minute, the Eagles offense went on the attack against the Pioneers defense, taking eight shots – connecting on Strecker's goal – as opposed to just two shots in the first half to make it a nail-biter for the final 35 minutes of the game.
After Strecker's goal, the Eagles (2-3) had a corner kick with 23 seconds left, but the Pioneers (4-0-1) were able to clear the ball out of the zone as the final buzzer sounded.
Senior
Giovanni Riello (Sao Paolo, Brazil) stopped four shots for the Eagles
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC home game against Concordia on September 19 at 3 p.m.
