Eagles Drop Final Regular Season Game To AIC

Springfield, Ma. – Senior Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) drove in two runs, but the Post University baseball team dropped a 12-6 game to American International College on Wednesday afternoon.

After falling behind 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth, the Eagles (20-22-1) unleashed a five run inning to take a 6-2 lead, the final four runs coming with two outs. After senior Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.) grounded into a double play that scored classmate Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.), sophomore Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) singled to drive in junior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

Junior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) then drove in senior Nick Grasso (Wyckoff, N.J.) on a single before Picone came up with the big hit of the inning, a two-run single to score Wright and Missiti.

The lead didn't last long for the Eagles as the Yellow Jackets erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 10-6 lead, highlighted by  back-to-back RBI doubles by Andrew Ciacciarel and Eugene Quirk. The Yellow Jackets (15-26) tacked on two more runs in the eighth.

Missiti finished the game going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Wright was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Up next for the Eagles is the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament where they will take on Dominican on May 6 at 2 p.m.
