Philadelphia, Pa. – Junior
Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.) stepped up big in game two as the Post University baseball team was able to split a doubleheader against Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference clash. Philadelphia won game one 4-3 in 11 innings. The Eagles won game two, 3-2.
With the game tied at 2-2 heading in to the top of the sixth inning of game two, sophomore
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) singled to left to lead off the inning for the Eagles. Sandwiched between a strikeout and a fly out, Missiti reached second on a passed ball before Leonardi's grounder was botched by the shortstop and allowed Missiti to score to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish.
Junior
Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) would finish his seven inning complete game striking out Melendez with a runner on first to end the game. Arnold finished with four strikeouts on the day.
Leonardi was also instrumental earlier in the game, as his RBI single to score sophomore John Cartegena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth after the Eagles (8-14-1) fell behind 2-0 early on. A wild pitch on a strikeout scored junior
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) earlier in the inning to get the Eagles on the board.
In game one, starting senior
Alex Johnson (Bethel, Conn.) struck out 12 in nine innings, but the Eagles lost a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to the Rams in 11 innings.
Michael Melendez hit an RBI single to drive in Christopher Lorenzo to give the Rams (9-18, 7-9 CACC) the win.
With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the eighth, Leonardi singled to drive in senior
Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. The Rams, however, mounted a two out rally in the bottom of the ninth and scored on an RBI single by David McTaggart to tie the game to send it in to extra innings.
Post got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning as a single from senior
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) drove in senior
Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.). A throwing error on the play by the Rams allowed senior
Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) to score and make it a 2-0 game.
Up next for the Eagles is their CACC home-opening doubleheader against Bloomfield at Municipal Stadium on April 11. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
