Eagles Sweep Nyack, Earn No. 3 Seed In CACC Tournament

Nyack, N.Y. – Senior Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) hit a homer to start a big inning for the Post University baseball team in game one as the Eagles swept Nyack 7-4 and 6-4 in Post's final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season games.

With the Eagles up just 4-3 in game one, and the Warriors on their tail, House blasted a shot over the left field fence to lead off the inning for his first homer of the season.

The Eagles (20-21-1, 14-8 CACC) weren't done there as junior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) doubled to drive in classmate Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) – who was hit by a pitch - followed by an RBI single by sophomore Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) to help seal the win for the Eagles.

The Warriors tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth, but left the bases loaded as junior Ben Brown (Middlebury, Conn.) was able to get Gabriel Vasq to fly out to end the inning. Brown then struck out the side in the ninth.

After Nyack got on the board in the first inning, House doubled to score senior Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.).

Nyack responded with another run in the second to take a 2-1 lead, but the Eagles scored three unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead. In the third, senior Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 2-2. Picone would then give the Eagles a 3-2 lead in the fifth as his single up the middle drove in Wright. Freshman Mike Grasso (Wyckoff, N.J.) tacked on one more run in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly that scored Picone.

Picone finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Tous was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Wright was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

Junior Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) struck out six in seven innings of work, giving up four runs – two earned – on five hits and three walks. Brown was electric in his two innings of relief, striking out five.

In game two, the Eagles used a five-run fifth, and held off a Nyack rally in the bottom of the seventh for the sweep.

With the bases loaded and one out with the game tied, 1-1, Kwan Jones scored on a fielder's choice by Picone to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead.

Missiti followed with an RBI single to score John Cartagena Jr. After senior Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice, a wild pitch with Mike Grasso at the plate allowed Picone to score. Grasso then brought the two remaining runners on base – Deangelis and Missiti – with a two-run double to cap the inning.

Nyack (23-18, 11-11 CACC) added a run in the fifth on a Yoni Rodrigu single to make it a 6-2 game.

The Warriors started another rally in the bottom of the seventh as they scored two runs before Carlos Pino grounded out to end the game.

Missiti finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Mike Grasso was 1-for-4 with three RBI.

The Eagles will now take on Dominican in the first round of the CACC tournament on May 6 at Municipal Stadium.
