Pomona, N.Y. – Junior
Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) hit his ninth homer of the year, but the Post University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, 7-4 and 3-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup to Dominican.
After falling behind 1-0 after the first inning, the Eagles (7-13-1, 4-2 CACC) would take a brief 2-1 lead, first scoring on an RBI single by Walsh that drove in senior
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) in the top of the third inning. Then, in the top of the fourth, junior
Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.) singled to score sophomore John Cartagena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) to give the Eagles the lead.
Dominican (9-12, 4-4 CACC) scored a run in the fourth to tie the game before taking the lead for good in the fifth on an RBI double by Anthony Bartolomei. The Chargers would tack on three more runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth.
The Eagles attempted a rally in the top of the ninth, which included a two out two-run homer by Walsh that also scored Picone.
Picone finished the game going 2-for-5 with two runs. Walsh was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run. Cartagena was 3-for-3 with a run.
In game two, the Eagles had just three hits in a 3-0 loss.
The Post pitching staff struck out 10 in six innings as sophomore
Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) struck out six in 4.2 innings. Junior
Ben Brown (Middlebury, Conn.) struck out all four batters he faced in 1.1 innings.
Up next for the Eagles is another CACC road doubleheader as they take on Nyack on April 6. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
