FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Post University men's tennis team's first-ever NCAA East Regional appearance will last at least another day as the Eagles took down fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire 5-4 on Saturday in wild match at Queens College Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
The Eagles led 2-1 after doubles as the No. 1 duo of juniors
Nikola Crvelin (Kaštel Lukšic, Croatia) and
Ludvig Henrikson (Taby, Sweden) defeated Ricardo Marreiros and Tiago Fernandes 8-3. Sophomore
Ivan Rajevac (Dubrovnik, Croatia) and freshman
Samuel Urban (Košice, Slovakia) earned another point with an 8-3 victory over Miguel Marreiros and Jeremy Reichentahl.
Freshman
Joe Alvord (Southbury, Conn.) made quick work of Reichentahl at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0. After dropping the first set to Northeast-10 Player of the Year Fernandes at No. 1 singles, Crvelin battled back to win 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Henrickson won a third set tiebreaker over Miguel Marreiros to clinch the match 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).
Post avenged its earlier 9-0 loss to the Penman this season and moves on to play top-seeded Queens in the finals tomorrow at 12 p.m. A win tomorrow will send the Eagles to the NCAA Championship round at Sanlando Park in Altamont Springs, Fla.
