Men's Tennis Moves Closer to Chance at Hosting CACC Semifinals at Home

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. -- It all essentially comes down to Wednesday for Post University Men's Tennis following their win over Dominican (N.Y.) at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club in Middlebury, Connecticut on Sunday afternoon. The 6-1 win over the Chargers pushed Post to 4-4 in conference play this season and, for the time being, into the second slot of the CACC standings ahead of Chestnut Hill College who sits at 3-4. The Eagles and Griffins square off on Tuesday in the rubber match of their three games this spring with the two seed being on the line.

Simply put, if Post beats Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, they will clinch the two seed and their first-ever tournament match at home in program history against the Griffins next Saturday. If the Eagles lose, they have to hope for some help from Dominican (N.Y.) on Wednesday against Chestnut Hill in the form of what would be the Chargers' first conference victory of the season to get the two seed, otherwise they would head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was another straight sweep through the Doubles for Post in similar fashion to less than 24 hours ago as seniors Anton Andersson and Niklas Langenfeld made quick work of senior Qalib Bahadurali Ladhani and sophomore John Bruno, 6-1, in the #1 Doubles to start off the day. Sophomore Tobias Strauss and junior Ivan Kolchanov were winners again in the #3 Doubles with a 6-2 win over sophomore Jorge Catala and junior Ander Cantero Sadaba while another 6-2 final for graduate student Gustavo Kerber and junior Dante Despontin in the #2 Doubles over freshman Ali Zizi and sophomore Leonhard Fleisch rounded out the first part of the day.

The sole win of the day for the Chargers came in the #1 Singles as a hard-fought match for Andersson ended in a three-set defeat against Zizi. After winning 11-9 on the tiebreaker point and losing set two, 6-4, the 10-point tiebreaker went the way of Zizi in a close 11-9 finish. But taking five of the six Singles matches was more than enough to get the Eagles the team win, 6-1, improving them to 4-4 in the conference.

In a pair of 6-4 set wins, Kerber took down Catala in the #2 Singles while Despontin fought off Fleisch in set one of the #3 Singles, 7-3 on the tiebreaker point before sweeping him, 6-0, in set two. The #4 Singles was also close in set one with Langenfeld taking down Bahadurali Ladhani, 7-5, before finishing him off like Despontin did his opponent with a straight 6-0 sweep.

The final two matches of the day saw Kolchanov go three sets with Sadaba after splitting them, 6-4 in favor of Sadaba and 7-5 in Kolchanov's favor leading to a 10-5 set three win for the junior from Post in the #5 Singles. Without much push back, Strauss rounded out the day in the #6 Singles for Post with a pair of 6-0 set wins over Bruno.
