Norristown, Pa. – Senior
Alex Johnson (Bethel, Conn.) threw a complete game 1-0 shutout in the second game of a doubleheader as the Post University baseball team swept Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt Saturday afternoon. Post won game one, 3-2.
Johnson allowed just five hits and walked no one to go with his five strikeouts. In his last start on April 23, he struck out 12 in eight innings in a win against USciences. He started right where he left off, striking out two batters in the first inning.
The Eagles offense mustered just two hits, but made the most of it, as senior
Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.) singled to drive in classmate
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) in the top of the fourth to give the Eagles the only run of the game. Picone walked to begin the inning.
Junior
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) got the only other hit for the Eagles in game two.
The Eagles used late inning dramatics to take down the Griffins in a back and forth game one as a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth by sophomore
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) that scored Wright broke a 2-2 tie to give the Eagles the lead late.
Wright led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a throwing error after Picone popped out to third.
The teams matched score lines up until the ninth. Junior
Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) had an RBI single to score senior Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) in the top of the second before the Griffins (19-18-1, 13-10 CACC) answered with a run of their own on an RBI single by Demetrius Isaac.
In the top of the seventh, an RBI single by freshman
Jared Zima (Berlin, Conn.) drove in Picone to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. However, Isaac again answered for the Griffins as his sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning tied the game, 2-2.
The Eagles (18-21-1, 12-8 CACC) pitching duo of sophomore
Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) and freshman
Tyler Boisvert (Prospect, Conn.) combined for eight strikeouts. Kovalewich, the starter, struck out five, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks. Boisvert earned the win in three innings of relief.
Picone finished the day, going 2-for-4 with a run. Deangelis was 2-for-3 with a run and two walks.
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road game at Nyack on Sunday, their final two conference games of the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
