WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against Bloomfield at LaMoy Field on Sunday afternoon. Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) hit her sixth home run of the season in an 8-3 game one victory. Post fell 4-1 in game two.
Game One: Post 8, Bloomfield 3
Back-to-back ground-rule doubles to left field opened the game and put the Bears in front 1-0. Bloomfield loaded the bases and another run came home on a walk before a flyout to center ended the threat.
The Eagles answered right back in the bottom of the first. Freshman
Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) drew a walk to lead off and advanced to second with one out as Kresley earned a free pass. Senior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) singled up the middle to make the score 2-1.
Freshman
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) cleared the bases and gave Post a 3-2 lead with a two-out triple to right center. She now leads the team with three triples this season.
Kresley drew another walk to start the third. She advanced to third as junior
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) singled on a bunt that spun away from the defense. Rivera knocked home her third run of the day as she grounded out.
Post jumped ahead 7-2 in the fourth on doubles by senior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.), Devorin, and Schaffer. Bloomfield scored its final run of the game on another bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Kresley crushed a 2-2 pitch over the fence in dead center in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to 8-3.
Sophomore
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) tossed a complete game and struck out four to improve to 7-9 on the year.
Game Two: Bloomfield 4, Post 1
Bloomfield scored early once again in game two. The leadoff batter was hit by a pitch. Marisa Naegele hit a triple to right center to score the first run. She came home on a sacrifice fly that put the Bears ahead 2-0 in the first. Another sacrifice fly added to the lead in the second.
Raylene Uribe led off the fourth with a three-bagger down the line in right and came home for the fourth Bloomfield run on a wild pitch.
The Eagles bats were quiet in game two as they only managed four hits. Devorin was the only Eagle to advance past first on the day. She legged out an infield single to begin the sixth and advanced to third on a groundout and passed ball. Kresley grounded out to the shortstop for the second out of the inning as Devorin came home for Post's only run in the finale.
Post is back in action tomorrow in a non-conference doubleheader at Mercy. First pitch in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. is set for 2:30 p.m.
