Strong Second Half Leads #16 Southern New Hampshire Over Men’s Lacrosse

McDermott ties career-high with four goals

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's lacrosse team got off to a quick start in its home finale against #16 Southern New Hampshire at LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon, but fell 22-11. Senior Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) tied a career-high with four goals.

The Penmen open a 2-0 lead out of the gate, but a slashing penalty led to a man-up opportunity and McDermott found senior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) to pull the Eagles within one. Post would score three straight from there to jump in front 4-2. McDermott and junior Kyle Hewlett (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored and Blackman added his second during the stretch. The Eagles led 4-3 after the first.

Post continued to roll in the second as senior Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) hit senior Mitchell Kinney (Hemlock, N.Y.) at the top of the zone for a goal. A shot by SNHU hit the post on the other end, Blackman picked up the loose ball and took it the distance to put the Eagles ahead 6-3 with 10:39 to go in the half.

Southern New Hampshire scored, but McDermott answered quickly to keep the Eagles in front by three. The Penmen scored the final three of the half, including a goal with six seconds remaining to tie the game 7-7 at the break.

The Penmen dominated the third quarter to take control of the game as they scored the first six of the second half. McDermott scored his third of the game in the quarter, but the Eagles trailed 16-8 heading into the fourth. The Southern New Hampshire offense did not slow down in the final quarter as it outscored Post 6-3.

Senior Shane Trost (Rochester, N.Y.) made 23 saves and grabbed five ground balls. Blackman and freshman Ben Price (Eden Prairie, Minn.) each had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Post wraps up its 2017 season on Wednesday at Dominican. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
