Post Men’s Lacrosse Drops Season Finale at Dominican 18-15

McDermott and Kinney score four each in loss

HILLBURN, N.Y. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Dominican 18-15 in its season finale at the Torne Valley Complex in Hillburn, N.Y. on Wednesday afternoon. Seniors Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) and Mitchell Kinney (Hemlock, N.Y.) each scored four times in the loss.
 
Senior Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) got things started with his 13th goal of the year with 8:51 to go in the first quarter. The Eagles lost the ensuing faceoff but a turnover led to a goal by senior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.). Kinney scored his first of the day next to put Post ahead 3-0 early.
 
After a quick goal by the Chargers, the Eagles got off eight shots on their next possession before Blackman found McDermott to put them in front 4-1. Dominican scored the final two of the quarter an trailed 4-3 after one.
 
The Chargers controlled possession to start the second after a late penalty by the Eagles and scored three straight to jump ahead 6-4. The lead did not last long as junior Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) and Blackman each added goals to tie the game at six with 9:41 to play in the half.
 
Freshman Corey Auten (Stratford, Conn.) caused one of his game-high three turnovers on the Chargers' next possession leading to another tally by Kinney as the Eagles pulled in front 7-6. The teams scored back to back until a late man-up goal by McDermott put Post in front 9-7 in the final minute of the half. Dominican pulled within one with a score with just six second left.
 
With the score tied 11-11 in the third quarter, a turnover by freshman Jim Botti (Shelton, Conn.) led to Kinney's third goal of the game. Dominican was assessed a delay of game penalty leading to a score by senior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) as Post led 13-11 through three quarters.
 
The Chargers took the lead for good with four goals to start the fourth quarter. Kinney and McDermott each scored in the quarter but Dominican answered each time.
 
The Eagles held a 49-42 advantage in shots, but Dominican led 32-25 in shots on goal. Ground balls were fairly even with the Chargers holding a 37-36 lead. Hylan led Post with a season-high six ground balls. Auten and Blackman each caused three turnovers.
