Bats Come Alive In Doubleheader Sweep Of Bloomfield

Newark, N.J. – The Post University baseball team jumped out to leads of 9-0 and 12-0 in games one and two, respectively in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep of Bloomfield Friday afternoon.

The Eagles won game one, 9-3, and game two, 16-9.

In game one, the Eagles (14-19-1) used a five run third inning to put the Bears away early in the win.

In the third, senior Drew DeAngelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) followed up his RBI double in the first inning with a two-run double in the top of the third that scored junior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) and sophomore John Cartagena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.). Freshman Mike Grasso (Wyckoff, N.J.) followed it up with a two-run double of his own that scored DeAngelis and sophomore Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) to make it a 5-0 game. An RBI single from senior Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) capped the high scoring inning for the Eagles.

Post added three more runs in the third to put the game out of reach, including a bases loaded walk by junior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.).

DeAngelis finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Mike Grasso went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Senior Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.) pitched a complete game for the Eagles and earned his first win of the season. He gave up five runs – three earned on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

In game two, Wright hit a two-run homer to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead and the Eagles never looked back in a 16-9 win over the Bears.

The Eagles would tack on ten more runs before the Bears would score their first as a sac fly from Mike Grasso and a wild pitch that scored DeAngelis would give the Eagles a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

The runs kept coming for the Eagles in the next innings, as they tacked on three more in the second, highlighted by an error off the bat of Mike Grasso that plated two runs for the eagles.

Wright would continue his hot hitting in the third with a two-run double that scored Emigholz and senior Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.).  An RBI double by Missiti and a second sacrifice fly by Mike Grasso would give the Eagles the insurmountable 12-0 lead.

The Bears (15-16) would get on the board in the bottom of the third scoring five runs, but the Eagles put any idea of a comeback to rest in the fourth as Post scored four more runs in the top of the fourth. Missiti had an RBI single in the inning. Emigholz drove in a run on a bases loaded walk.

Wright finished his career-game going 2-for-4 with four runs and four RBI. Senior Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs. MIssiti was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Mike Grasso finished with four RBI.

The Eagles are right back in action on Saturday as they host USciences in a CACC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
