PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University softball team scored 20 combined runs in two games to sweep USciences in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) series on Tuesday afternoon. Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) and freshman
Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) each homered on the day.
Game One – Post 8, USciences 1
Senior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) hit a double in the first inning to start a rally for the Eagles. Kresley and senior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) each followed with RBI singles to put Post in front 2-0. The Devils added a run in the bottom of the frame, but that would be as close as they would get.
Devorin drove in a run on a fielder's choise in the second and freshman
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) put the Eagles ahead 4-1 with a sac fly in the third.
Post opened the sixth with a single by senior
Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) and a double by Devorin. Both came home to score as senior
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) reached on an error. Senior
Jessica Grzywna (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Dawson each had RBIs in the seventh.
Junior
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) allowed six hits and struck out one as she threw her 10
th complete game of the season.
Game Two – Post 12, USciences 9
The mercy rule looked like it was going to come into play in game two as the Eagles jumped in front 8-0 to start the day. Four errors by USciences led to six runs in the first. Rivera drove home two on a single to right field. Kresley hit a two-run homer in the second as the Eagles looked to cruise to an easy win.
The Devils got one back in the second, but RBI singles by Lennox and Kresley in the third extended the lead to 10-1. Devorin smacked a two-out double in the fourth to add another run for Post.
USciences climbed back into the game with six runs on seven hits in the fourth and a two-out two-run single in the sixth closed the deficit to 11-9. Devorin added some insurance for Post in the seventh with a lead-off home run. Denis shut the Devils down in the bottom of the inning to earn her third save of the year.
The Eagles continue their road trip on Thursday afternoon at Dominican. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
