Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) struck out seven batters in seven innings and senior
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) broke an eighth inning scoreless tie as the Post University shut out Merrimack, 5-0 in a non-conference game.
Esposito held the Warriors hitless until there were two outs in the sixth inning. A single by Joey Porricelli that hit the lip of the infield and popped up over the head of sophomore third baseman
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) gave the Warriors (15-15-1) their first hit of the game.
Offensively, the Eagles were finally able to catch a break against Merrimack starter Joe Velozo in the top of the eighth when Picone's RBI single plated sophomore John Cartagena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) to make it a 1-0 game. Cartagena, Jr. reached on a double down the right field line with one out. After a single by senior
Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.) put Picone on third, a throwing error by the catcher allowed him to score, making it 2-0.
The Eagles (12-19-1) would get a few more insurance runs in the top of the ninth, as a two-run double by junior
Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) scored freshman
Mike Grasso (Wyckoff, N.J.) and Missiti to make it a 4-0 game. Emigholz then scored on a wild pitch for Post's final run.
Esposito finished the day pitching seven innings giving up no runs on four walks and a hit to go with his seven strikeouts. Sophomore
Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) pitched two innings of scoreless relief and struck out one.
