Waterbury, Conn. – Nick Arnold pitched a complete game in game two with six strikeouts, but the Post University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Wilmington, 9-2 and 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup.
Arnold ended four of his seven innings with strikeouts and both runs he gave up were unearned.
An error in the first inning allowed Wilmington to get on the board first on a sacrifice fly.
The Eagles responded quickly as sophomore Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) doubled to left field to score junior
Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) who started a two-out rally with a single.
Arnold and Wilmington starter Chuck Delagol traded zeros on the scoreboard for the next four innings until Wilmington was able to take the lead on another sacrifice fly by Kendall Small to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles had runners on first and second with two outs but couldn't get a run across the plate.
Arnold finished the day giving up just four hits, two runs – zero earned – with six strikeouts. Munson was 2-for-4, including a double and triple with an RBI.
In game one, the Eagles fell behind early, giving up three runs in the second and were unable to make a comeback in the 9-2 defeat. The Eagles scored both of their runs in the bottom of the ninth thanks to two errors by the Wildcats. Walsh and Munson scored runs for the Eagles.
Walsh and Munson were both 2-for-4 with a run each.
