Waterbury, Conn. – Senior
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) drove in four runs in game one, and classmate
Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) scored three runs in game two as the Post University baseball team's bats came alive in a sweep of Concordia in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon.
The Eagles used a five run seventh inning for the game one win, breaking a 4-4 tie heading into the frame. After sophomore Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) was hit by a pitch, classmate
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) tripled to drive in freshman
Kwan Jones (Easthampton, N.J.) - who pinch ran for Munson – to give the Eagles the 5-4 lead. Junior
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) would follow with quite a sequence as he singled to drive in Missiti, then followed it up by stealing second and third base before a sac fly from classmate
Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) made it a 7-4 game.
Picone would then effectively put the game away with a two-run single that scored sophomore
John Cartagena Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) and junior
Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.).
Deangelis would add one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with his first home run of the season.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead early on thanks to an RBI fielder's choice by Deangelis, followed by a wild pitch that scored Picone.
After the Clippers busted out for four runs in the top of the fifth, the Eagles answered with two in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single from Picone to tie the game.
Picone finished the game going 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run. Cartagena, Jr. was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Deangelis had two RBI.
The pitching combination of senior
Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.) - 4.1 innings - and freshman
Tyler Boisvert Prospect, Conn.) - 4.2 innings - combined for eight strikeouts on the day. Boisvert was credited with his first win of the season.
In game two, the Eagles overcame an early 2-0 deficit by responding with two separate four-run innings for the win.
In the bottom of the second, Missiti kicked off the scoring barrage with an RBI single that scored Deangelis. After a walk from Wright and single by Leonardi, Emigholz hit a two-run single to score both runners after Leonardi stole second to put himself in scoring position. A sacrifice bunt from Picone would score Emigholz to give the Eagles (11-17-1, 8-4 CACC) the 4-2 lead.
The Eagles continued their scoring the next inning as an RBI triple from Missiti scored Deangelis and a single from Wright scored Missiti to make it a 6-2 game.
Concordia (3-20, 2-8 CACC) closed the gap in the top of the fourth with RBI singles from Nicholas Tomaselli and Tyler Epple to make it a 6-4 game.
The Eagles added one more run in the fifth and four more in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Munson.
Freshman
Brett Pisaneschi (East Quogue, N.Y.) got the win for the Eagles, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on three walks and six hits while striking out three.
