PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University softball team hit four home runs one Thursday as it swept Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Thursday. The Eagles took game one 5-4 and crushed the Griffins 13-4 in game two.
Game One – Post 5, Chestnut Hill 4
The Eagles were shut down in order in the first two innings while sophomore
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) also allowed just one runner through two. Senior
Jessica Grzywna (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman
Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) each singled in the third. Both came home on a single by senior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) as the Eagles opened a 2-0 lead. Chestnut Hill tied the game in the bottom of the third as Ariel Magee blasted a two-run shot to right-center.
Home runs by seniors
Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) and
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) propelled Post to a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning. A two-run double by Kaya Swanek brought the Griffins within one in the sixth. Denis pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh to capture her team-leading fifth win of the year.
Game Two – Post 13, Chestnut Hill 4
Junior
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) doubled to center to put the Eagles in front 1-0 in the first inning. Chestnut Hill tied the game in the bottom of the frame.
Grzywna put Post in front for good with an RBI single in the third. After a walk by Dawson, Devorin added a run on an RBI infield single. Senior
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) cleared the bases with a double to center. Lennox followed with a double to center as the Eagles jumped in front 6-2.
Ragazzone crushed a two-run bomb to center to add to the lead in the sixth. She hit a grand slam in the seventh as the Eagles rolled to a 13-4 victory.
Freshman
Brianna Koref (Springfield, N.J.) earned the win as she pitched the first 3.1 innings. Denis picked up her second save of the year as she struck out one over the final 3.2 innings.
