WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Caldwell 20-10 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game at LaMoy Field on Monday afternoon. The four senior members of the team were honored before the game.
Junior
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) won the opening draw and put the Eagles in front 1-0 under a minute into the game. Following a turnover by the Cougars on the ensuing draw, junior
Savannah Schwack (Manorville, N.Y.) added to the lead with her fifth goal of the year.
After Caldwell answered back to tie the game, freshman
Rose Varrone (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied her first goal of the year to put the Eagles back in front. Schwack made the score 4-2 with 24:17 to go in the half on a free-position score to force a timeout by the Cougars. Out of the break, Caldwell poured in five straight to jump in front 7-4.
Back-to-back scores by freshman
Leona Stevens (Kingston, Mass.) and Deren brought the Eagles within one at 7-6, but that would be as close as they would get. Stevens added her second goal in the final minute of the half and the Cougars led 10-7 at the intermission.
Post stayed within striking distance to start the second half as the teams traded goals. Senior
Nicole Evans (Cortland, N.Y.) and sophomore
