Springfield, Ma. – A late ninth inning rally fell just short as the Post University baseball team lost 5-3 to American International College on Thursday in a non-conference game.
With the Eagles down 5-2 heading into the top of the ninth, freshman
Jared Zima (Berlin, Conn.) singled and advanced to second base on a throwing error with one out. Senior
Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) would then drive Zima in with an RBI single to make it a 5-3 game. However, a flyout and a groundout ended the rally for Post.
The Eagles got the scoring going in the top of the first as junior
Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) doubled to score senior
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) to make it a 1-0 game. After AIC scored on a ground out in the bottom of the second, House would score on a wild pitch after starting the inning with a walk.
The Yellow Jackets would tack on two runs in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 5-2 game.
House finished the day going 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Post used six pitchers on the afternoon, combining for 11 strikeouts on the day. Starter
Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.), a sophomore, pitched two innings and struck out three while giving up a run on three hits and a walk. Freshman
Brett Pisaneschi (East Quogue, N.Y.) also pitched two innings, striking out a team-high four batters.
The Eagles won't get a lot of rest as they will travel to Caldwell for a Central Atlantic Collegiate doubleheader on Friday at 1 and 4 p.m.
