WATERBURY, Conn. – Senior
Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) scored with 2:04 to go in overtime to lead the Post University men's lacrosse team over St. Thomas Aquinas 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Buchas finished with two goals and now sits one away from becoming the first Eagle with 100 career points.
After a turnover by the Spartans on the first possession of overtime, a shot by senior
Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) was saved as St. Thomas Aquinas took over on offense. Senior captain
Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) smacked the ball out of the stick of Kevin Alvora behind the goal and picked up the ground ball to start a fast break for the Eagles. He quickly found Buchas on the right of the net for the winner.
The Eagles looked to be in control of the game early on as they after the first quarter. Two goals by senior
Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) in the second quarter gave Post its largest lead of the game at 5-1 with 9:39 to go in the half. Kearney added a late goal as he scored his fourth of the year diving through the crease to give the Eagles a 6-2 advantage at halftime.
Buchas scored off a pass from Blackman midway through the third as Post led 7-4 heading into the final quarter. St. Thomas Aquinas was helped by two fourth-quarter penalties by the Eagles as it cut into the lead with back-to-back goals to pull within one.

Shane Trost (Rochester, N.Y.) in the closing minutes, the Spartans retained possession and Briele Caples tied the game with 1:22 left. St. Thomas Aquinas won the ensuing faceoff, but the Eagles' defense stepped up and did not allow a shot as the game went to the extra period.
Blackman finished with three goals and a helper. Senior
Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) had a goal and an assist.
Post grabbed 27 ground balls led by Trost and Blackman with five each. Freshman
Ben Price (Eden Prairie, Minn.) had four caused turnovers, he is currently fifth in the nation in the category. Trost stopped 15 shots on the day.
The Eagles return to action at home on Saturday against Assumption. Face off at LaMoy Field is set for 1 p.m.
