Eagles Lacrosse Falls at Home to Assumption 12-8

Buchas scores 100th-career point in loss

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Assumption 12-8 at LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon. Senior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) scored twice to become the first player in team history to record 100 career points.

Down 1-0 midway through the opening quarter, the Eagles retained possession after a shot from senior Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) hit the post. Senior Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) tied the game as he cut across the middle to score his 11th goal of the year. Assumption led 2-1 through the first.

The Greyhounds added another goal early in the second to go ahead 3-1. Hylan rocketed home his first of two goals on the day to bring the Eagles within one. Buchas hit his milestone with 2:54 to go until halftime as he scored from the top of the zone and Post trailed 5-3 at the break.

Assumption began to pull away as it scored the five straight to start the third and took a commanding 10-3 lead. Hylan and junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) scored two late goals for Post to give the Eagles momentum heading into the final quarter.

After a save by senior Shane Trost (Rochester, N.Y.) gave the Eagles possession early in the fourth, Blackman quickly shot off a pass from McDermott to continue the comeback. Post forced a turnover and Buchas cut the deficit to 10-7 with 11:16 to go, but that's as close as it would get.

Freshman Corey Auten (Stratford, Conn.) scored a late goal for the Eagles.

Post outshot Assumption 32-27 on the day led by senior Mitchell Kinney (Hemlock, N.Y.) with eight shots. Blackman picked up four ground balls. Junior Mike Brumber (Hempstead, N.Y.) had three caused turnovers on the day.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday night at Molloy. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
