Seven-Goal Fourth Powers Eagles Lacrosse Over District of Columbia 15-12

Hylan tallies five points in victory

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's lacrosse team scored seven goal in the fourth quarter to capture a 15-12 victory over District of Columbia at LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon. Senior Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) scored two goals and added three assists. He has tallied 12 points over the last two games.

Down by 9-7 in the final seconds of the third quarter, senior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) scored to give the Eagles momentum heading into the final period. Two penalties by the Firebirds turned into two man-up goals for Post to give the Eagles a 10-9 lead with 8:17 to go, their first since early in the second quarter.

A turnover by the UDC goalkeeper on a long pass after a save led to Hylan's first of two goals in the fourth as Post increased its lead to 11-9. Senior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) added to lead with 5:40 left and classmate Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) made the score 13-9 with another man-up score.

The Firebirds trimmed the Eagles' advantage to three late, but following the final UDC goal, Blackman won the faceoff and went the distance to lock up the victory for Post.

The Eagles led 5-3 midway through the second, but penalties led to five straight goals by the visitors as they grabbed control of the game until the final period. Senior Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) and McDermott each tallied three goals and an assist. Blackman, Hylan, and senior Mitchell Kinney (Hemlock, N.Y.) added two goals each.

Post held a 40-33 advantage in ground balls, led by Blackman with season-high eight. Senior Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) recorded four caused turnovers.

The Eagles are back at home on Wednesday against St. Thomas Aquinas. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
