Wilmington, De. – The Post University baseball team used the bats in game one and the arm in game two as it swept Goldey-Beacom 10-5 and 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Game one was highlighted by a five-run seventh innings after the Eagles fell behind 5-4.
Junior
Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) started the rally with a sacrifice fly that scored sophomore
Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.). The Eagles then used patience at the plate, walking three straight times, the last one by sophomore John Cartagena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) that scored senior
Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) and gave the Eagles the lead.
Senior
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) would then cap his big day at the plate with a two-run single that scored freshman
Mike Grasso (Wyckoff, N.J.) and junior
Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.). A wild pitch followed by a throwing error by the Lightning allowed two more runs to score for Post.
The Eagles added one more insurance run on another sac fly from Walsh.
Post jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring one run in the top second and three more in the top of the third before Goldey-Beacom put up five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead.
Picone finished the game going 4-for-6 with two RBI. Missiti went 3-for-4 with four runs scored. Cartagena, Jr. walked three times and scored two runs. Senior
Alex Johnson (Bethel, Conn.) received the win in relief for the Eagles, pitching six innings, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out six.
In game two, junior
Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) pitched a complete game shutout and Walsh hit his eighth homer of the year in a 2-0 win.
Walsh hit his homer in the first inning, and the Eagles added another run in the fourth on an RBI double by junior
Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) for all the scoring the Eagles would need.
Arnold pitched seven innings, giving up just four hits and one walk for the win.
