WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team fell to American International 2-1 in a non-conference game at LaMoy Field on Friday afternoon. Senior
Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.) had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles in the loss.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first as Jamie Mainez hit a solo shot to left center to lead off the second. American International looked to add to its lead but had two runners thrown out on the base paths.
Freshman
Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) doubled off the wall in left with one out in bottom the second inning. Cammarano followed with a base hit up the middle as the Eagles tied the score 1-1. Junior
Amanda Ely (Pittsfield, Mass.) kept the inning alive as she avoided a tag at first on a ground ball to put runners at the corners. Post was unable to bring home the go-ahead run.
Offense was hard to come by for both teams in the middle innings and freshman
Brianna Rotunno (Staten Island, N.Y.) sat the Yellow Jackets down in order in the third and fourth. Cammarano singled on a line drive off the pitcher in the bottom of the fourth but was stranded at first.
AIC scored the eventual winning run in the sixth inning as Jess Lingenberg hit a pinch hit RBI single with two outs. The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases before a groundout to short go the Eagles out of the jam.

Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) legged out an infield single and sophomore
Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) followed with a fielder's choice. Both moved up a base on a sac bunt by senior
Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) but were stranded in scoring position. Dawson gunned down a runner at third with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to keep the game at 2-1.
Senior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) crushed a pinch hit double off the center field wall to start the bottom of the seventh. Ely returned to the game to run and advanced to third with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game for Post.
Rotunno tossed her first career complete game as she struck out one and allowed seven hits.
The Eagles are back at it tomorrow at home in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against Georgian Court. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
