Second Half Comeback Falls Short for Men’s Lacrosse at Saint Rose

Eagles fall to 1-4 on the year

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Post University men's lacrosse team outscored Saint Rose 8-5 in the second half but fell to the Golden Knights 16-11 on the road on Thursday afternoon. Seniors Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) and Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) each scored four times for the Eagles.
 
Post did not touch the ball in the first few minutes of the opening quarter as Saint Rose went ahead 2-0. Buchas cut the deficit in half with 8:31 to go in the first. The Knights added another goal and led 3-1 through one.
 
Freshman Ben Price (Eden Prairie, Minn.) forced a turnover late in the second and assisted on Hylan's second goal of the game. Saint Rose scored on eight of its nine shots on goal in the quarter as it built an 11-3 lead heading into halftime.
 
Down 12-3 early in the third, Post found itself with a two-man advantage and the Eagles made the most of it as Buchas scored his second of the game to spark a four-goal run. The senior had three goals during the stretch, including his team-leading 11th of the season, as Post cut the deficit to 12-7. Each team scored twice in the final minutes of the third as the score was 14-9.
 
Hylan finished the day with a career-best seven points as he assisted on goals by senior Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) and Corey Auten (Stratford, Conn.) in the fourth. The Eagles pulled within four before Saint Rose scored the final goal of the game.
 
Post outshot Saint Rose 42-37 on the day and 24-12 in the second half. The Eagles forced 23 turnovers, Price and senior Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) caused two each. Blackman also picked up a team-high seven ground balls and eight face-off wins to go with two assists.
 
Senior goalkeeper Shane Trost (Rochester, N.Y.) made nine saves and had six ground balls.
 
The Eagles return home on Saturday against the University of the District of Columbia. Face-off at LaMoy Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
