WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team was defeated by in-state rival Bridgeport 14-4 in a non-conference game at LaMoy Field on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman
Leona Stevens (Kingston, Mass.) scored twice for the Eagles in the loss.
The Purple Knights struck first in the opening minutes of the game. Later in the half, senior
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) forced a Bridgeport turnover which led to a goal by Stevens to tie the game 1-1 at the 24:21 mark of the period. Stevens added her second later in the half as Post trailed 7-2 at the break.
The Eagles scored the final two goals of the game as senior
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and junior
Savannah Schwack (Manorville, N.Y.) tallied scores for Post.
Freshmen
Jaylene Souto (Middletown, R.I.) and
Alana Lopez (Wolcott, Conn.) led Post with five ground balls each. Senior
Jessica Ayala (Middletown, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers. Senior
Nicole Evans (Cortland, N.Y.) and Deren each recorded three draw controls. Lopez made 10 saves between the pipes.
Post tallied a season-high 14 shots in the loss.
Post returns to action at LaMoy Field on Sunday, March 26 against Wilmington at 1 p.m.. The Eagles will play in support of Coaches vs. Cancer and dedicating the game to loved ones who are battling or have battled cancer. Fans and members of the campus community can purchase Heroes of Hope cards to honor someone in their lives that has battled cancer. Cards will be displayed at the Drubner Center.
