Women’s Lacrosse Falls in CACC Opener to Dominican 17-7

Stevens scores first-career goal


WATERBURY, Conn. – Freshman Leona Stevens (Kingston, Mass.) scored her first-career goal as the Post University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Dominican 17-7 in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Monday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
 
Stevens scored the first goal for the Eagles on a free-position shot with 18:58 to go in the first half to make the score 6-1 in favor of the Chargers. Post scored twice more in the half, both by junior Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) as the score was 10-3 at the break.
 
Deren led all scorers on the day with a season-high five goals. She scored three more times in the second half and now leads Post with eight goals on the season. Sophomore Aolani Hermosura (Stamford, Conn.) scored her second goal of the season late in the game.
 
Senior Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) led Post with three ground balls and three draw controls. She also was one of four Eagles with a caused turnover. Freshman goalkeeper Alana Lopez (Wolcott, Conn.) made nine saves and picked up three ground balls on the day.
 
Post returns to action at home on Wednesday, March 22 against Bridgeport. Game time at LaMoy Field is set for 3 p.m.
