CLERMONT, Fla. – The Post University softball team split a doubleheader against Pace on Tuesday in Clermont, Fla. Senior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) drove in all seven runs for the Eagles in a 7-6 win in game one. A walk-off homer lifted Pace over the Eagles 6-5 in game two.
GAME ONE: Post 7, Pace 6
The Eagles opened a 5-0 lead through two innings of game one. With senior Kristin Owens (Exton, Pa.) and junior
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) on base with one out, Ragazzone launched a three-run shot to left field. Her second home run of the season.
Senior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) began the second with a double to left field. Freshman
Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) was hit by a pitch as the Eagles had two on with no outs. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Ragazzone brought them home with a base hit to right.
Pace got on the board with three runs in the fourth inning, but Post answered back in the bottom of the frame. One out infield hits by Devorin and Owens set the table for Ragazzone who doubled in two runs as the Eagles extended their lead out to 7-3.
Post led 7-4 heading into the seventh inning. Haley Hernandez reached on an error to start the Pace rally. Larissa Labs lined a double to center to bring the tying run to the plate with no outs. A singled and a sacrifice fly trimmed the Eagles' lead to 7-6 before a groundout ended the game.
Freshman
Brianna Koref (Springfield, N.J.) picked up her first-career victory as she struck out three and allowed three runs over four innings. Sophomore
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) pitched the final three innings to earn the save. The seven RBI for Ragazzone were the most in the game for Post since 2013.
GAME TWO: Pace 6, Post 5, F/9
Freshman
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded to give Post a 1-0 lead in the first inning. An error by the Eagles led to a run by Pace in the bottom of the second. Lindsey Ah Soon put the Setters in front 2-1 with a solo shot to start the fourth.
Owens led off the fifth with a bunt base hit and advanced to second on a single by Schaffer. Ragazzone was plunked to load the bases for the Eagles once again. Senior
Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) tied the game with a base hit. The go-ahead run came home as Rivera grounded into a double play. Pace tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the frame.
The teams were held scoreless until the eighth inning. Ragazzone was placed at second to start the frame and crossed home on an error by the Pace shortstop. Senior
Jessica Grzywna (Philadelphia, Pa.) doubled home another run and put the Eagles in front 5-3.
A two-out triple by Jillian Gartner tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth. Ashley Lew crushed a walk-off home run in the ninth to give Pace the victory.
Post finishes its Florida trip on Wednesday with games against Millersville (10:30 a.m.) and Saint Thomas Aquinas (3:30 p.m.).
