Holly Springs, N.C. – Freshman
Brett Pisaneschi (East Quogue, N.Y.) struck out five batters in relief, but the Post University baseball team fell behind early and lost 14-2 to No. 14 Mercyhurst Sunday afternoon.
Mercyhurst scored five runs in the top of the first and four more in the top of the second before the Eagles got on the board with an RBI triple from junior
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) that scored sophomore Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.).
After Mercyhurst's Chris Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the top of the third, freshman
Kwan Jones (Easthampton, N.J.) hit an RBI single to score Munson again to make it an 11-2 Mercyhurst lead.
Mercyhurst scored one more run each in the fifth, sixth and eighth inning for insurance to preserve the win.
Sophomore John Cartagena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) finished the day 2-for-3. Munson was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
Pisaneschi came in to the game with one out in the top of the third and slowed down the Mercyhurst offense. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up two runs – one earned – on four hits and two walks to go along with his five strikeouts.
Up next for the Eagles is a non-conference road game at University of New Haven on March 1. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
