Late Three-Pointer Drops Post Men’s Basketball in Regular Season Finale

Eagles fall to Concordia 72-71

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Jalen Heath of Concordia hit a three-pointer with five seconds remaining to lift the Clippers of the Post University men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles will now await their opponent in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament.

The Eagles led by eight at 60-52 with 8:02 left in the game after a layup by junior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) who finished with 12 points. Concordia hit from distance on each of its next two possessions on its way to a 11-0 run to jump in front 63-60.

The Clippers extended their lead to four points with 3:03 left before junior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) nailed a fastbreak layup after a block by Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.). Desrosiers was fouled on the play, but missed his free-throw attempt. Mareno was three to clean up the glass and lay it in to tie the score 69-69 with 1:01 left. Mareno pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 18 points for his seventh double-double of the year.

Concordia missed a three on its next possession and the Eagles grabbed a board and called a timeout. Out of the break Desrosiers was fouled with just 13 ticks remaining and it both of his free throws. After another Eagles' timeout, Heath hit the game winner. A prayer by senior Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill.) fell short as time expired.

In the first half neither team led by more than four points. Post exploded out to an 18-6 run to start the second half as it built a 49-38 lead before the Clippers were able to mount the comeback.
Desrosiers led all scorers with 27 points on the night on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Post shot 55 percent from the field in the second half.

The Eagles will be the fourth seed in the conference tournament which begins on Saturday, Feb. 25.
