Men’s Basketball Falls in CACC Quarterfinals to Philadelphia 72-63

Williams scores 16 points in loss

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University men's basketball season came to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles fell to Philadelphia 72-63 in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament.

Junior Naasir Williams (Harlem, N.Y.) led the Eagles with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Junior Tyler Desrosiers scored 12 in the first half and finished with 15 points and two blocks on the day. Classmate Joseph Lockwood (London, England) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Williams hit his first of three from distance early in the first half to put the Eagles in front 10-9. Post would lead for the remainder of the period. Junior Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) scored four of his eight points as part of an 8-2 run to build the Post advantage to 23-15 with 10:37 left.

Philadelphia trimmed the deficit to just two points before the Eagles scored 10 straight, jumping out to their largest lead of the game at 37-25 with just over three minutes remaining in the half. Kaison Randolph scored the final seven points as the Rams closed the first with an 11-2 spurt to make the score 39-36 at the break.

The teams traded baskets early in the second and Philadelphia grabbed its first lead since the early part of the opening half at 44-42 with another three-pointer by Randolph. Sophomore Adnan Halilovich (Mali Svornik, Serbia) tied the game on the Eagles' next possession, but a free throw by the Rams on the other end give them the lead for good.

After Philadelphia built a 63-53 lead, Post pulled within five points after a three-pointer by senior Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill.) with 3:23 left but were unable to pull any closer. Amos finished his final game with 11 points, six rebounds, and a steal.

The Eagles shot 51 percent from the field in the first half, but just 26 percent in the second. Philadelphia held a 42-36 advantage on the glass.
