Box Score WAYNE, N.J. – The Post University men's hockey team cut a four-goal deficit to just one but were defeated by William Paterson 5-4 in its season finale on Saturday night in Wayne, N.J. Junior
Dave Canfarotta (Stratford, Conn.) scored twice in the loss.
"We played solid in the first period and came on strong in the third, but a loss of focus and missed assignments in the second is what really what cost us tonight," said head coach
Pete Whitney.
William Paterson took an early lead before Canfarotta scored his first of the night to tie the game 1-1 with 1:53 to go in the first. After another goal by the Pioneers early in the second, Canfarotta struck again off an assist from sophomore
Mack O'Shea (Watertown, Conn.) to knot the score 2-2. William Paterson added three more in the period and looked like it was going to pull away for an easy win.
The Eagles would not go quietly as O'Shea found freshman
Kyle Weiss (Andover, N.J.) to trim the deficit to 5-3. Freshman
Tyler Hackett (Branford, Conn.) pulled the Eagles within one with 5:34 left. Post pulled goaltender
Joseph Grout (Plainfield, N.H.) in the final minute to gain an extra attacker, but were unable to tie the game late.
Grout finished with 35 saves on the night.
