SHELTON, Conn. – Sophomore
Sierra Alarid (Cheyenne, Wyo.) scored a goal and assisted on another, but the Post University women's hockey team was defeated by Nichols 4-2 on Friday night in Shelton, Conn. The Eagles visit the Bison tomorrow night.
Nichols struck first midway through the opening period as McKenna Gernander put home a loose puck in front of the net. Freshman
Kayleigh Miller (Braselton, Ga.) put back a rebound after a shot by Alarid to tie it up with 5:52 to go in the first.
Freshman
Gwendolyn Lansky (Grass Lake, Mich.) fed a long pass to Alarid who deked a few defenders to score, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the second period. Nichols answered just 22 seconds late with a goal by Jordyn McGuire. The Bison would add one more in the period to take a 3-2 advantage into intermission.
MacKenzie Lyons scored a power-play goal with 6:19 remaining to make the score 4-2.
Post was outshot 57-21 on the night. Sophomore
Molly Brumfield (Columbus, Ohio) led the Eagles with five. Brumfield and sophomore
Julia Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) each won eight face-offs.
Freshman goaltender Danaée St-Germain (Metcalfe, Ontario) stopped 53 shots, including 21 in the first period.
Post returns to action tomorrow night on the road at Nichols at Levy Rink in Burrillville, R.I. Puck drops at 7:40 p.m.
