SHELTON, Conn. – The Post University men's ice hockey team was defeated by in-state rival Wesleyan 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at the SportsCenter of Connecticut. Freshman
Jake Raleigh (Raleigh, N.C.) scored for the second game in a row and now had three goals on the year.
The Eagles stuck with the Cardinals throughout the first period. Freshman goaltender
Nick Levesque (Manassas, Va.) allowed an early goal as Dylan Holze put home a rebound 1:28 into the game. Levesque recovered to make 17 saves in period as the score was 1-0 at intermission.
Down 2-0 after a power-play goal by Welseyan in the first minute of the second period, Raleigh put the Eagles on the board. The freshman stuffed home a pass from senior
Christopher Harris (Barnstable, Mass.). Sophomore
Tyler Hackett (Branford, Conn.) had the secondary assists, his first of two points on the day.
Things got away from Post in the period as the Cardinals added five more to take a 7-1 lead into the third. Hackett scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a rush late in the third off assists from freshman
Evan Lugo (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and sophomore
Noah Wild (Wading River, N.Y.). The Eagles outshot Wesleyan 13-10 in the third.
Levesque made 38 saves in his first start between the pipes. Hackett led Post with five shots and also won a game-high 12 faceoffs.
Post returns to action on the road at Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Hersheypark Arena in Hershey, Pa. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
