Men’s Basketball Falls at Home to Nyack 71-56

Nunez scored career high 16 points off the bench

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team lost its final game before winter break on Tuesday night 71-56 against Nyack at the Drubner Center. Senior Jason Nunez (Harlem, N.Y.) scored a career-high 16 points off the bench in the loss.

Freshman Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass.) scored 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Senior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) added 12 points, two steals, and a block. Senior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) pulled down a game-high seven boards.

The Eagles found themselves down 20-13 midway through the first half, but a layup by Boyd sparked a 13-2 that put Post ahead 26-22 with 4:55 to go. Boyd scored seven points during the stretch. Nyack took the lead back on a three in the final minute. Boyd went coast-to-coast in the final seconds for a layup to knot the game 30-30 at the break.

The teams traded baskets to start the second and Nyack pulled in front 42-37 with 13:08 remaining. Nunez drained threes on each of the Eagles' next two possessions to put Post back in front 43-42. A jumper on the other end by Carl Balthazar put Nyack ahead for good. The Warriors rolled off an 18-4 run from there to put the game away.

Post could not find its shot all night as it shot a 31.8 clip from the field and was just 6-of-15 from the line. The Eagles did pull down a season-high 16 offensive rebounds which led to 15 second-chance points.

The Eagles return to action on Friday, Dec. 29 on the road at American International. Tip-off in Springfield, Mass. is set for 5:30 p.m.
