Men’s Hockey Has Strong Showing, Falls Short Against Stonehill

Eagles outshoot Skyhawks 17-10 in third period

SHELTON, Conn. – The Post University men's ice hockey team had a strong showing in a 4-1 loss to Northeast-10 foe Stonehill on Tuesday night. Freshman Evan Lugo (Sandy Hook, Conn.) scored his fourth goal of the season in the loss.

"The score does not indicate it, but we played a strong game tonight. Shots on goal were comparable and we came on strong outshooting them in the third. We competed great but they transitioned the puck better than we did. We definitely had our chances but couldn't bury those opportunities," said head coach Pete Whitney.

Sophomore Tyler Hackett (Branford, Conn.) controlled the puck after a scramble in the corner and found senior Christopher Harris (Barnstable, Mass.) in the circle. He quickly hit Lugo in front of the net who converted to put the Eagles in front at the 7:13 mark of the first.

The lead didn't last long as 28 seconds later Stonehill answered to tie the game. The Skyhawks added another later in the period to head into the intermission in front 2-1. Stonehill also scored twice in the second.

Post controlled the third period and outshot the Skyhawks 17-10. The Eagles had many opportunities late in the game as they had a 5-on-3 advantage for the final two minutes.

Stonehill held a slim advantage in shots on the night at 42-39. Post won a game-high 36 faceoffs with 11 victories coming from Hackett. Freshman goaltender Brandon Brown (Hanahan, S.C.) made 38 saves on the night.

The Eagles are back at home next Tuesday, Dec. 5 against Assumption. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
