Men’s Basketball Drops to LIU Post 91-88

Game-tying three as time expires fall short

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – For the second game in a row, a late comeback by the Post University men's basketball team fell short as the Eagles were defeated by LIU Post 91-88 on Sunday afternoon in Brookville, N.Y.

With five seconds remaining, a layup by freshman Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass.) cut the deficit to 91-88. After timeouts by each team, senior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) stole the ensuing inbounds pass and launched a three-pointer that fell short as time expired.

The Eagles looked out of it after a three-pointer by LIU's Jared Rivers, who finished with a game-high 41 points, made the score 87-69 with 5:13 to play. Senior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) hit a jumper on the other end as Post began its comeback.

Sophomore Savion Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) made a layup after a miss by the Pioneers and Desrosiers nailed four straight free throws as the deficit was just 10 points with 3:25 to go. Two more baskets by Boissard, who finished with 14 points and four assists, brought the Eagles within single digits.

A steal by Boyd led to a fast-break layup by Desrosiers to make the score 89-84 with just over a minute to play. Junior Justin Iton (Englewood, N.J.) put back a miss with 12 seconds left to bring the Eagles within three. The Pioneers hit two free throws on the other end to extend the lead back out to five points before the final sequence.

Post led 11-9 early in the game until a 16-4 run midway through the first half put the Eagles into a double-digit deficit for most of the game.

Boyd and Desrosiers each had 19 points on the day while Boyd added four rebounds and two steals. Lockwood added 11 points and five boards. Post held a massive 46-18 scoring advantage in the paint. The Pioneers made 16 three-pointers on the afternoon.

The Eagles return to the court on Sunday, Nov. 26 for their second meeting with Pace in Pleasantville, N.Y. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
