SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Post University men's ice hockey team was defeated by St. Michael's 5-2 on Tuesday night. Freshman
Evan Lugo (Sandy Hook, Conn.) scored for the third time in four game this season.
The Eagles were outshot 17-4 in the first period, but freshman goaltender
Brandon Brown (Hanahan, Va.) turned away 17 shots to keep the game scoreless into the intermission.
"I thought we settled down after the first period and came out hard in the second and third. We need to fix a couple basics and we are right there," said head coach
Pete Whitney.
St. Michael's pulled in front at the 16:28 mark of the second as Ethan Hendrikson found Tyler Dorval in front of the net for the score. Only 17 seconds later, Post answered as junior
Brian Hurley (Long Beach, N.Y.) converted on a wrist shot from the right side.
Lugo put the Eagles in front with his third goal of the year with 14:56 to play in the second. Freshman
Ryan McNelis (Havertown, Pa.) found Lugo in the slot for the go-ahead score. A power-play goal tied the game later in the second and a turnover led to the go-ahead score for the Purple Knights as they led 3-2 after two.
St. Michael's scored again at the 11:50 mark of the third and added an empty-net goal.
Post was outshot 49-20 on the night. Lugo led the Eagles with four shots while junior
Christopher Harris (Barnstable, Mass.) and sophomore
Lucas Smith (Calgary, Alberta) each had three. Brown stopped 44 shots in goal.
The Eagles return to action this weekend against St. Anselm. Post will visit the Hawks Friday at 7 p.m.
