BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Senior
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) nailed a turnaround three-pointer in the corner with .03 seconds left in regulation to send the Post University men's basketball team to overtime as the Eagles defeated Pace 87-84 in in the UB Conference Crossover Classic in Bridgeport on Sunday afternoon. Desrosiers finished with 24 points and became the 13
th player in school history to score 1,000-career points.
The Eagles found themselves down 80-77 with five seconds remaining and the ball in their frontcourt after a timeout. Sophomore
Savion Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) inbounded the ball to Desrosiers, who was streaking around the arc. Desrosiers caught the pass, lost possession for a second, recovered and sunk a fadeaway three from in front of the Post bench to send the game to overtime.
Freshman
Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass.) scored five of his game-high 26 points in the extra period, including a go-ahead layup that made it 85-84 with 1:49 left to play. The Eagles defense forced three late misses by the Setters and senior
Joseph Lockwood (London, England) iced the game with two free-throws.
Post led by as many as six points in a back-and-forth first half. Pace used a 7-0 run to pull ahead 44-35 in the final minute, but a three by senior
Jason Nunez (Bronx, N.Y.) and a coast-to-coast layup by Boyd as time expired sent the Eagles into the break down just 44-40.
The Setters led 65-54 midway through the second half, but a 12-4 spurt by the Eagles capped by a Boyd three-pointer cut the deficit to three with 7:44 to go in regulation. Pace held the lead the rest of the half until the final sequence.
Boyd also added 11 rebounds and was one of two Eagles with a double-double as freshman
Daniel Cabassa (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 13 boards to go with three blocked shots. Lockwood finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
The Eagles return to action against Bridgeport on Saturday, Nov. 18 in the LIU Post Thanksgiving Classic in Brookville, N.Y. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
